About Noe Valley

There is good reason why Noe Valley is counted among the most beloved residential neighborhoods in San Francisco. It is an intermediary between the hilly and somewhat isolated elevations of Twin Peaks, Diamond Heights, and Glen Park, which border it to the south and west, and the more bustling flatlands on the east side of the peninsula, such as the low-lying corridor of Bernal Heights around Mission Street, the Inner Mission proper, and Eureka Valley, including the Castro District. As such, it enjoys the best of both worlds: a sense of quietude and remove from the city with quick and easy access to the denser business districts that surround it.

From any point in Noe Valley, one has excellent access to well-appointed and often stunning parks. One of the most prominent examples is Douglass Park, with the Upper Douglass Dog Play Area, Douglass Playground, and some breathtaking views of the downtown skyline. The Upper Noe Recreation Area features a playground, tennis courts, and a dog play area, as well as a full gymnasium. The rest of Noe Valley is studded with smaller green spaces offering a sense of quiet refuge within the city. But just outside the limits of the neighborhood one also finds a number of further options that merit frequent visits. To the north, Dolores Park presents views of the city to a sunny, amphitheater-like hillside. To the south, in Glen Park, there is Billy Goat Hill and the Walter Haas Playground, also known for their remarkable views. And to the southwest one finds the ecologically diverse 70 acres of Glen Canyon Park, with creekside trails wending their way through grasslands, past rocky outcroppings, and amidst spring wildflowers.

Noe Valley has its own business district, including a Whole Foods Market and many beloved restaurants, along 24th Street, providing for its residents at a pleasantly relaxed pace. It also boasts a wonderful transit option in the J-Church MUNI streetcar, which connects to several other MUNI lines at Market street to the north. Sunny, quiet, and picturesque, yet offering easy access to many other areas of the city, Noe Valley’s excellent reputation among San Francisco neighborhoods is well earned.
